ChatGPT down: Chatbot service suffers major global disruption
Users of the chatbot from across the world are reporting issues preventing them from accessing the app.
OpenAI's artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT is suffering from a major disruption on Tuesday, with users of the chatbot from across the world reporting issues preventing them from using the service.
According to downdetector.com, which monitors website outages, thousands of users have reported it so far. OpenAI confirmed that the service is experiencing partial disruptions. "We are observing elevated error rates and latency across ChatGPT and the API. Our engineers have identified the root cause and are working as fast as possible to fix the issue," the company said.
It is not yet clear what caused the problem and how long it will last. The last time such a serious outage was registered was in January of this year when it took several hours for the issue to be resolved.
OpenAI revealed on Monday that its annualized revenue run rate has doubled since late 2024, surging to $10 billion as of June. The milestone underscores the company’s central role in the global AI boom.
While the company posted a $5 billion loss last year, its path to profitability now seems more credible. With momentum like this, OpenAI appears firmly on track to meet its ambitious internal target of $12.7 billion in 2025 revenue. This figure does not include the company’s lucrative licensing deal with Microsoft or other large one-time contracts, suggesting that its core product revenue alone is fueling this rapid growth.
